Let’s address the Portland Police Bureau’s unprofessional and insensitive response to Portland’s Life Support Rallies, marches and events.
Everyday people are showing support for families in the communities of Ferguson, NYC, Berkeley and in large and small cities and towns across the nation.
In addition to taking it to the steets, we can phone, write or send an email to those in charge.
(Ideally, the Police Bureau should provide coffee, take off the riot equipment, put down the sub-machine guns and hold rogue cops accountable for beatings, homicides and murders. Right now they don’t even bother to keep track.)
Currently, PDX Police have set up firing squads in homeless shelters, shot a 17 year old kid in the forehead and profiled and beaten everyday people who were exercising their rights to free speech. Too many PDX cops are out of control, feel entitled to break the law and remain unaccountable and dangerous. .
The United States Department of Justice’s hotline recording says the quantity of citizen call-in complaints on an issue DOES impact whether they investigate, and that they in fact RELY on citizens to report criminal actions by police, so please make this important phone call:
US Department of Justice, Criminal Investigations Unit, 202-514-2000
(very user friendly message line)
>In your own words, tell them why killing unarmed citizens is unacceptable. Armed peace officers to must stop profiling, attacking, beating-up, arresting, harassing, intimidating and choking, shooting and killing a disproportionate number of people they are supposed to be protecting. We can no longer abide laws against walking or standing still when black. Sometimes the punishment has been summary execution. Anyone who chooses to stand up and speak truth to power in a public forum should not be injured, brutalized or put to death for exercising their rights as citizens.<
Other calls you may want to pursue:
Oregon Dept of Public Safety & Standards – Leon Colas, Professional Standards – 503-378-2100 –
Complaints against individual police, not the agency itself (stuff like those FB profile pics posted by Officers Rich Storm, Rob Blanck and Kris Barber, which were liked by ~15 fellow officers who were not reprimanded and allowed to work the Ferguson rallies — as in fact were two of the original posters, one as a paddy wagon driver, the other as a booking agent — both vulnerable scenarios for arrestees)
White House Comment Line, 202-456-1111 (remember you are speaking to a volunteer, politeness counts, and they are usually super nice)
Multnomah District Attorney 503-988-3162 – The young lady who answered the phone was quite pugilistic, so good luck!
Eric, PPB PR – 503-378-2100 – PR doublespeak
Sg. Pete Simpson, PPB Media Relations – 503-823-097 – PR doublespeak
Mayor Charlie Hales’ Office – 503-823-4120 – PR doublespeak, incompetency and misinformation
And here are a few more people to call… These murders must end.
