James Earl Carter told the truth about Israel and the Middle East. He has my sympathy for the slings and arrows, and I’m grateful for his candor.
Telling the truth can make people mad, but truth matters and facts remain. The leadership of Israel and the United States have engaged in premeditated acts of terror and committed war crimes.
Because Israeli and American “leaders” have chosen to embrace and invest in unending wars for the corporate bottom line, everyday people in both nations will continue to suffer the consequences. Carter’s reminders are helpful, but it has already been said that people in glass houses should not throw stones. We must begin the hard work to secure peace.

Life is fine! Fine as wine! Life is fine!
Hold fast to dreams
if dreams die
Life is a broken-winged bird
That cannot fly.
Hold fast to dreams
For when dreams go
Life is a barren field
“I’ll let you be in my dreams if I can be in yours”
― Bob Dylan,
You are here to risk your heart. You are here to be swallowed up. And when it happens that you are broken, or betrayed, or left, or hurt, or death brushes near, let yourself sit by an apple tree and listen to the apples falling all around you in heaps, wasting their sweetness. Tell yourself you tasted as many as you could.”
― Louise Erdrich, The Painted Drum LP

to those we have entrusted
to enforce those laws.”

Solutions to unending violence in the Middle East may depend most on people understanding the necessity of changing course, and knowing how to rebuild and restore the nations.
“American democracy, once held up as a beacon for the rest of the world, is a withered caricature of its former self, no longer capable of concealing the dictatorship of the financial and corporate elites…”
