Strike Debt Portland is in solidarity with the national movement Strike Debt, striving to abolish all forms of illegitimate debt. Strike Debt Portland has been organizing Debtors Assemblies for over two years. At these public gatherings we invite all peoples to share their debt experiences. Debt is something in our culture that gears individuals to feel isolation and stress. At Debtors Assemblies we hear about others’ pressures from creditors and find none of us are in this alone. Sharing our stories empowers us to resolve the stigma of debt burdens; hence the Strike debt slogan “you are not a Loan.”
If you have debt, or have managed to stay out of debt, come tell us on March 12th! We will introduce Strike Debt Portland at 3:30 pm then open the floor for debtors to share their stories. Bring some food if you will for this potluck in a fellow debtors’ backyard. We hope this event inspires you to have your own Assemblies!
